Dr. Byron Biscoe and his staff at the Laser Vision Institute of the Virgin Islands are pleased to provide comprehensive eye care in a warm, inviting atmosphere. In addition to our full-service optical shop and clinic, we have an on-site, state-of-the-art laser vision correction suite. Our office is vibrantly decorated with bright colors, tropical fish, and an array of paintings from local artists. We have strived to create an office environment that complements the natural beauty and welcoming hospitality of our surroundings, while enabling us to perform a wide variety of advanced treatments, including cataract surgery, PRK and LASIK laser eye surgery.

About Byron W. Biscoe, M.D., F.I.C.S.
Dr. Byron Biscoe considers it an honor and a privilege to take care of his patients using the very latest advances in vision technology, including the latest in laser eye surgery. At his St. Thomas practice, he has been serving those from the U.S. and British Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, and other areas of the Caribbean since 1994. Throughout his career as an ophthalmologist, Dr. Biscoe has introduced many techniques and procedures to the region. He was the first to perform the following procedures in the Virgin Islands:
- Laser vision correction
- Small incision cataract surgery
- Retinal detachment repair
- Vitrectomy
- Advanced glaucoma surgery
- Laser treatment for diabetic retinopathy and glaucoma
- Clear cornea foldable intraocular lens placement
- Corneal transplant
After earning his undergraduate and medical degrees at Morehouse College in Atlanta, Dr. Biscoe completed an ophthalmology residency in New York in association with the Cornell University Medical College. He then went on to complete a pathology fellowship at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology. Dr. Biscoe also completed a retina research fellowship at Johns Hopkins Wilmer Eye Institute. In this fellowship, he co-published a paper on proliferative vitreoretinopathy (PVR), the primary reason for the failure of retinal detachment surgery. Dr. Biscoe continues to hone his skills with numerous continuing education programs.
He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the International College of Surgeons, the Ophthalmologic Society of the West Indies, and the International Society of Refractive Surgery. Dr. Biscoe has also been selected as one of the Best Doctors in America®.
Dr. Biscoe takes an active role in his community and was the recipient of the 2008 Lions Club Community Service Award. In his free time, he enjoys boating, scuba diving, skiing, golfing, fishing, and spending time with his family.
